National Consortium of Clinical Educators (NCCE)

The National Consortium of Clinical Educators (NCCE) represents academic and clinical educators and serves as a resource and forum for individuals who have professional interest and responsibilities for the implementation and evaluation of clinical education for physical therapists.

Our consortium represents Clinical Education Faculty (academic and clinical) affiliated with entry-level Programs that are institutional members who serve in clinical education roles such as: Directors of Clinical Education (DCE), Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education (ACCEs), Clinical Faculty (Center Coordinators of Clinical Education (CCCE) and Clinical Instructors (CI)), Clinical Education Coordinators (CEC), and Clinical Administrators/Managers (CAM). Our members are employed by ACAPT member institutions or are a clinical education affiliate with a member institution.

Each ACAPT member institution will support the participation of one clinical education team consisting of at least one academic and one clinical faculty member, both of whom should be APTA members and may hold at least one of the positions described above. The clinical faculty member should be directly involved with the institution's clinical education program. The academic faculty member is responsible for registering its "NCCE Institutional Pair/Team" and for maintaining the currency of this information.

Our objectives are to support the Mission of ACAPT to promote excellence in physical therapy education by:

  • Providing a mechanism for engaging academic and clinical educators, in representative numbers, to address matters related to integration of clinical education into academic physical therapy.
  • Strengthening partnerships among academic and clinical communities to implement strategies for achieving excellence in academic physical therapy.
  • Communicating with the Academic Council about issues related to clinical education.
  • Promoting cooperative efforts among academic programs and the clinical practice communities that support clinical education.
  • Dissemination of information related to initiatives of the Council that impact physical therapy clinical education.
  • The NCCE will meet at least once annually at ELC in conjunction with the annual meeting of the ACAPT and, when possible, during CSM.

Have Your Registered Your NCCE Team?

To register your team, please complete the "Request to Join" form. Only team registrations will be accepted so you will need to register both persons at the same time. Please have the APTA membership numbers and emails for both team members ready prior to initiating the registration process. Again, teams are formed as institutional pairs and must register as a team in order for the institution's team to be approved.

If you have a change in team membership, please contact the NCCE Secretary, Chalee Engelhard, at  ncce@acapt.org

ACAPT and NCCE Regional Liaisons

ACAPT has adopted a regional liaison structure for the purposes of member communication with the Board. The Board of the NCCE has collaborated with the ACAPT Board to identify regions and liaisons that align with the ACAPT regions, for communication purposes with membership. Regions were designed with consideration of the distribution of programs, composition of existing regional consortia, and routine collaborations that occur. Each state/jurisdiction has both an ACAPT Board Representative and a NCCE Board Representative. NCCE Board Representatives will be the Nominating Chair and the 8 Directors-at-large. Below, we have listed the regions and states assigned to each NCCE representative and their email addresses.
