DPT Terminal Internship Consortium

The purpose of this consortium is to provide a mechanism and venue for ongoing discussions related to standardizing and enhancing the terminal clinical education experience. As well, the Consortium members may serve as a resource for discussions related to implementation of extensive terminal clinical education experiences; this may include the yearlong internship model. The Consortium will also provide resources for those interested in pursuing the establishment of an academic-clinical partnership.

  • Advance a model of clinical education that reflects the rigor commensurate with a doctoring profession.
  • Advocate for the preparation of graduating physical therapists such that they are primed to function in the current and future health care environment.
  • Create general guidelines and processes for developing an expanded terminal internship, explicitly including information related to mentoring, student progression, and assessment of student performance.
  • Explore opportunities to engage in research related to clinical education outcomes.
  • Face-to-face meeting at ELC
  • Conference-call meetings at least 4x per year.
  • Work group meetings will occur throughout the year as needed to complete assigned tasks
