ACAPT Representative: Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education

The Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education (Global Forum) is an ongoing, convening activity of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicinethat brings together stakeholders from multiple nations and professions to network, discuss and illuminate issues within health professional education. Currently, there are 56 appointed members to the Forum who are academic experts and health professionals representing 19 different disciplines from 9 countries. Of these members, 45 are sponsors.

Since its inception in 2012, the Global Forum has used its guiding principles to direct much of the work of the Forum. These principles emphasize engaging students, being patient- and person-centered, and creating an environment of learning with and from partners outside of the United States. Members of the Forum gather twice a year to attend Forum-sponsored events that consider these principles during the agenda planning process. Topics for these activities are selected and developed by the Forum members themselves at separate meetings of the Forum. Responsibilities/Qualifications

 

This position requires an experienced academician who desires to promote, achieve, and sustain excellence in the health professional education including continuing professional development. This individual will represent ACAPT’s core values to other member organizations and desire to advance excellence in health care by fostering collaboration and advocating policies in the best interest of individuals and communities. Experience in association governance, interprofessional collaboration, and higher education and health policy would be helpful.

 

Time Commitment

 

It is expected that the ACAPT Representative will attend two 1-day planning meetings that precede the two 1 ½-day workshops/year that are held at the Keck Building in Washington, DC. One planning meeting/workshop is held in the Fall (October or November) and one in the spring (April) and they typically scheduled from 10 am on Wednesday through Friday noon. In addition, the representative may be invited to help plan and lead one of the workshops which will involve multiple conference calls and additional travel to Washington DC for planning meetings as need.

 

Prior to each workshop, the ACAPT representative announces the workshop to ACAPT members as well as to the National Interprofessional Education Consortium (NIPEC). The workshops are free and open to the public and are also webcast but registration is required. Following each meeting/workshop, a summary report is shared with the ACAPT Board. Any updates to the Global Forum website (publications, resources) that may be of interest to ACAPT should be shared in a timely manner.
