The RIPPT seminar series is a monthly research-focused webinar that provides an interactive forum on topics of interest to the community of researchers in physical therapy and rehabilitation related fields.

Description
There continues to be a shortage of faculty for DPT programs with terminal degrees (e.g. PhD, EdD, ScD).
A major barrier to pursuing post-professional education is the opportunity cost of the degree; however, these costs may be substantially offset with differences in promotion within faculty academic tracks and other opportunities for increased earning potential. We will share preliminary data highlighting the potential financial benefits of PhD training.
In addition, the session will:
- Highlight other potential perceived barriers that decrease enthusiasm for PhD training and provide strategies to overcome barriers.
- Discuss distinguishing factors that differentiate PhD programs (e.g. full-time vs part-time options), mentor characteristics, and timing of PhD training (immediately after DPT vs after clinical immersion).
Target audience: Faculty, post-docs, program directors/chairs, PhD students, and others interested in discussing strategies to highlight the benefits of PhD training.
