Webinar Information

Simulation standards of best practice: developing strong simulations webinar

When:

ACAPT's Simulation in Physical Therapy Education Consortium (SIPTEC) represents institutional members with a strong interest in simulation as a pedagogical approach to the education and professional development of physical therapist students, residents/fellows, and clinical educators. PT instructors at ACAPT member institutions can join SIPTEC for free.

Whether you are just starting to use simulation in physical therapy education, or you are experienced with delivering simulation-based learning experiences, it is helpful to know and understand simulation Standards of Best Practice. These standards, developed by other healthcare disciplines, can be easily applied to simulation development in physical therapy education.

This session will outline the International Nursing Association for Clinical Learning and Simulation’s (INACSL) newly-revised Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice. Attendees will analyze a mock scenario for application of the Standards of Best Practice and leave with a solid foundation for developing their own simulation-based learning experiences based on widely recognized best practices.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Discuss the INACSL Healthcare Simulation Standards of Best Practice.
  • Describe foundational best practices that are essential in simulation case development.
  • Develop a needs assessment for creating a simulation-based learning experience.
  • Utilize best practices in simulation pedagogy in the early development of a case, including a needs assessment, objectives, simulation design, and facilitation.
  • Integrate a SWOT analysis in the creation of a simulation-based learning experience.

Target audience: Physical therapy educators and academic faculty who are interested in simulation-based learning; program chairs who are implanting simulation-based learning experiences in their curricula.
