REMINDER!! - Nominations for ACAPT Student Preparedness Study are Needed!! (Especially CLINICIANS AND RECENT GRADUATES):
As part of ACAPT’s strategic initiative to identify best practice in physical therapist clinical education, the Student Readiness Strategic Initiative Panel has been charged with identifying a “requisite core set of knowledge, skills, attitudes and professional behaviors” (Recommendation IX, Clinical Education Summit, 2014). The complete report can be found at this link: http://acapt.org/documents/reports/docs/default-source/reports/post-summit-report-sept-2015
To accomplish this charge, the Student Readiness Panel is conducting a Delphi study to capture the perspectives of Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) academic faculty, Directors of Clinical Education (DCE) / Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education (ACCE), recent graduates, and clinical instructors about student readiness for a FIRST FULL-TIME clinical experience. The things listed would be items that would be expected of students regardless of where that FIRST FULL-TIME clinical experience fell within a students curriculum or the setting in which that FIRST FULL-TIME clinical experience took place. We will need participants who are willing to participate in a structured, multi-step survey process as we gather information and distill responses at each step to ascertain group consensus on student readiness. The study timeframe is November 2016-March 15, 2017, and will involve responding to approximately 3-5 surveys, each taking about 15-20 minutes.
Additionally, the participants must meet the following inclusion criteria:
Academic Faculty: At least 5 years of experience as a CORE faculty member teaching in a physical therapy program, including teaching students prior to their first full-time clinical experiences. This can include Program Directors (yourself),
Director of Clinical Education (DCE) / Academic Coordinators of Clinical Education (ACCE): At least 5 years of experience as a DCE/ACCE in a DPT physical therapy program,
Recent Graduates: Graduates of entry-level programs who have graduated within the last 8 months and who have been successful on their licensure exam.
Clinicians: Clinical instructors who have supervised at least 5 DPT students on their FIRST FULL-TIME clinical experience.
We would appreciate your assistance in this process by identifying 4 potential participants for our study. If you can nominate an academic faculty member, your DCE/ACCE, a recent graduate and then have your DCE/ACCE nominate a clinician we would truly appreciate it. Final participants will be selected from the pool of respondents to this request. We are asking Program Directors to forward this e-mail to the 4 individuals they have nominated. They can indicate their willingness to participate by responding to Dr. Jean Timmerberg, Panel Chair, by phone at 212-305-2814 or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
In order to complete the study on time, we request that you make your nominations no later than November 20th, 2016. We thank you for your consideration of this important initiative. Please feel free to contact any of the Panel members for further information.
