Please use any of the criteria below to search the database for peer-reviewed, published clinical reasoning tools. NOTE: Selecting fewer criteria will provide more results.

Disclaimer: ACAPT's Clinical Reasoning Tooshed is a collection of peer-reviewed tool profiles that summarize the available evidence on clinical reasoning tools that facilitate and/or assess clinical reasoning in learners. Individuals, by downloading and/or using these tool profiles, understand this. Each tool profile reflects available evidence at the time of publication. Tool profiles should be reviewed prior to use for the accuracy of concepts related to clinical expertise.

The Clinical Reasoning Workgroup (formerly of the Clinical Reasoning and Curricular Assessment Consortium of ACAPT) invites you to join us in building the Clinical Reasoning ToolShed. We are looking for individuals with all levels of experience in using clinical reasoning tools at all levels of PT and PTA clinical and didactic education. Utilize this link to fill out a short questionnaire to be assigned to a small group. Groups will be assigned to review the associated literature on a specific tool in order to translate findings into a standardized template for publication to the ToolShed. Time commitment is estimated to be ≤8 hours over the course of 3 months. Individuals who download a tool profile from the Clinical Reasoning Toolshed and use it are asked to cite the author’s work, when applicable, in the following way: “Author name, name of tool profile, American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) Clinical Reasoning Toolshed, 2025, acapt.org, provided with permission from the author."
