Pre-admission observation hours

May 12, 2020

In the fall of 2019, the American Council of Academic Physical Therapy (ACAPT) approved the formation of a Task Force on Pre-admission Observation Hours led by ACAPT's National Consortium of Clinical Educators (NCCE).

The issue of pre-admission observation hours as criteria for admission to a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program has been discussed in clinical education national forums for several years.  ACAPT's task force is exploring current practices and perceptions regarding the use of pre-admission observation hours, then making recommendations to the ACAPT board and membership.

The task force is obtaining data from four groups and we ask that you complete the survey link below for your role no later than Monday, June 15.

  1. Admissions committee member survey

  2. Directors of clinical education (DCE) survey

  3. Clinician survey

  4. Current student survey -- including April, May and June 2020 graduates

Thank you for your time!  This research has received Institutional Review Board approval from Texas Woman's University-Houston.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email Peggy Gleeson at pgleeson@twu.edu.
