Embodying the clinical education experience

Embodying the CE experience

Clinical Education is growing. The opportunity to champion and elevate the academic-clinical partnership is here.

Regional Consortia

The Clinical Education Commission is working on new initiatives to enhance the regional consortia groups and foster better communication. Using ACAPT's upcoming engagement tool, Higher Logic, the regional consortia groups can take advantage of creating active and sustained engagement and effectively disseminating information to members.

Clinical Education Roadshows

The Clinical Education Roadshow has been instrumental in identifying unique differences across consortia, including their structure, membership, and geographic needs. Through these events, we have facilitated meaningful discussions on improving communication pathways and shared foundational resources. We also provided comparison data for benchmarking, aiding regional consortia in their planning processes.

The Mid-Atlantic Consortia (MAC) and Georgia Consortia of Clinical Educators (GCCE)  were held at Riverside College in Newport News, VA and the University of North Georgia and focused on similar key themes and challenges.  Both events provided platforms for members to discuss unique regional challenges, effective communication pathways, and share foundational resources. Topics such as membership structures, geographic considerations, and strategies for improving communication pathways were thoroughly explored, providing valuable insights for regional consortia and takeaways to enhance the national conversation.

The MAC included all 13 regional DPT programs and 9 of the 20 PTA programs. There were 29 attendees, evenly split between academicians and clinicians. The GCCE is comprised of 9 of 10 regional DPT programs and 6 of 8 PTA programs. Thirty-nine participants were a part of the roadshow in Georgia.

The Ohio/Kentucky roadshow will be held on November 8, 2024 at Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY.

CE Commission listening sessions

The Clinical Education Commission launched quarterly listening sessions focused on engaging the CE community, addressing key issues, and fostering continuous communication throughout the year.

The initial listening session in February 2024 identified five key pressure spots in clinical education: Program proliferation, Variations in the placement process,  New program development & use of the Regional Consortia,  Inpatient placements and  Meeting student needs through accommodations.  Over 300 people registered and over 200 attended. To review the highlighted challenges and shared ideas/resources click here.

The regional consortia leadership session was a focused and dedicated gathering allowing for a closer, more intimate conversation tailored to the specific needs and best practices of regional consortia leaders. Leadership consisted of 30 participants representing 16 of the 23 consortia.

The third listening session took a deeper dive into the concept of incentives that drive clinicians into CE and examined perceived organizational barriers to successful CE programs and partnerships. Eighty-two people attended the third session.

The next listening session is scheduled for October 9, 2024 at 7:00 pm EST.

Clinical Education Glossary

The Clinical Education Terms Oversight Group met several times to establish process for receiving and reviewing proposals for glossary edits and potential new terms. The call for edits and new terms went out in Spring 2024 and a survey link was provided. Proposals were accepted through mid-June 2024. Seven submissions were received including a clarification for an existing term, two edits, and four new terms. A limited number of the submissions will result in glossary changes. Final status is still pending.
