Pain management resources for PT educators

Jan 4, 2023

ACAPT is a member of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering & Medicine (NASEM) Global Forum on Innovation in Health Professional Education and was one of the sponsors of the Non-Pharmacological Pain Management Workshop in November 2018.

  • One of the gaps identified during this workshop was the conclusion that despite availability of competencies,  evidence of implementation of interprofessional pain education was sparse.

  • In response to these outcomes, the ACAPT Global Forum representative, Kim Dunleavy, spearheaded an interprofessional working group from the Global Forum who partnered with members of the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP) Study of Education Programs to publish the articles below.
  • The special edition includes models and examplars of effective interprofessional education targeting pain management with 6 models/activities and commentaries on the including patient perspectives, and barriers and facilitators across international settings.

  • The models include experiential and learning activities such as simulations, use of NIH published cases, and post-professional continuing education.

Below includes links to the December 2022 edition of the Journal of Interprofessional Education & Practice summaries and free access full article links for a short period after publication:

These articles are also available through the journal (beyond the time for free sharing by authors):
