ACAPT is proud to shine this month’s spotlight on Dr. Heather Ross, a valued member of our Board of Directors, whose mix of humor, insight, and academic drive makes her an incredible force in the academic physical therapy community.
Beyond the Classroom
When she’s not shaping the future of physical therapy education, Dr. Ross is happiest cheering on her kids, serving at their activities, hanging with her husband and dogs, or unwinding with a true crime podcast. “I love attending and serving at my kids’ activities, listening to podcasts—true crime, please!—and bird watching,” she says.
Her furry companion Larry, a 130-pound half-Dobermann, half-Mastiff, keeps life entertaining. “He’s an absolute mess and we love him so much!”

What Inspires Her
When asked who she admires most, Dr. Ross doesn’t hesitate, Ruth Bader Ginsburg tops the list. “RBG’s persistence, intellect, and influence are unmatched.”
She’s currently diving into The Anxious Generation alongside Stephen King’s If It Bleeds, blending curiosity for modern psychology with a taste for suspense.
Goals and Passions
Looking ahead, Dr. Ross's academic side is as strong as ever. “I have two scholarly products in the hopper that are important to me,” she shares. “My goal is to have both completed and disseminated by next year.”
If given the chance to teach anything, her answer is simple: “Anatomy, ALWAYS!”
Words of Wisdom
When asked what she hopes her students remember most, Dr. Ross doesn’t talk about technique or test scores. Instead, she focuses on mindset:
“How to be a flexible learner. And how to laugh!”
It’s a fitting message from a leader who embodies both adaptability and joy in learning—two qualities that keep the PT profession growing stronger.
