ACAPT Advocacy Update

Jan 15, 2026

ACAPT continues to invest in a strong, coordinated federal advocacy strategy to ensure that physical therapy education and the future PT workforce are well-represented in Washington. We’re pleased to share several important updates.

New Federal Lobbying Partnership

ACAPT has engaged a new federal lobbying firm, Lobbyit, to strengthen our presence on Capitol Hill and with federal agencies. This partnership expands our capacity to:

  • Monitor and respond quickly to federal higher education and healthcare developments
  • Build and maintain relationships with key congressional offices and committees
  • Coordinate ACAPT’s advocacy priorities with coalition partners
  • Advance proactive strategies that reflect the needs of academic physical therapy programs
  • This firm brings deep experience in higher education, health professions, and workforce policy.

Launching a New Grassroots Advocacy Platform

We have also implemented a new grassroots advocacy platform, Voter Voice, to better mobilize our members, faculty, students, and partners when it’s time to take action.

This platform will allow ACAPT to:

  • Share timely advocacy alerts
  • Make it easy to contact legislators with just a few clicks
  • Collect real-time data and insights from our community
  • Amplify student and program voices in a coordinated, effective way

Higher Education Updates

Federal policymakers and agencies continue to focus on issues that directly affect DPT programs and students, including:

  • Graduate student loan eligibility and affordability
  • Cost of attendance considerations, including living expenses
  • Workforce pipeline challenges across healthcare professions
  • Regulatory and classification decisions impacting professional graduate programs

ACAPT is building our strategy and relationships to be ready to mobilize when decisive actions are made. We will share more information as it becomes available.

Thank you for your support and dedication to the profession! Stay tuned and activated within ACAPT to respond to advocacy alerts, gather student and program perspectives, and advocate for academic physical therapy. Toolkits and resources will be forthcoming.
