CAPTE Standards & Required Elements update

Aug 8, 2023

CAPTE recently adjusted their structure to support the goal of fostering more guidance and coaching instead of punitive actions.

  • A new site visit two-step process includes:
    • Paper review of the self-study by two people.
    • Feedback and suggestions 2-3 weeks before the site visit.
    • If the self-study is poorly written, the program has time to change items ahead of the visit.
  • CAPTE has heard ACAPT members' input and made some adjustments to its revised accreditation standards.

  • CAPTE also developed the 2024 Standards & Required Elements (SRE) transition plan. The third & final draft of the Standards & Required Elements will be posted between September 5-8, 2023.

  • Final listening sessions for comment are scheduled for the first week in October. The session for feedback on the PT Standards and Required Elements is scheduled for Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. ET.  (CAPTE has not released the Zoom or registration information yet, but ACAPT will post as soon as it's available.)

  • CAPTE will vote on the revised SREs at its October 2023 meeting. Programs reviewed by CAPTE after January 2026 will be reviewed under the new standards.

  • 2023 PT programs self study live workshops will be available September 13, 18 & 20, 12:00 - 3:00 p.m. EST.  Learn more & register on the CAPTE website.
