Needs assessment to guide curricular development in simulation

This webinar is provided through ACAPT's Simulation in Physical Therapy Education Consortium (SIPTEC).

This webinar provides all physical therapy educators and program chairs who are interested in integrating simulation-based learning experiences in their curricula with an understanding of the essential elements of a needs assessment to support the use of simulation-based education (SBE) to create significant learning in students.

Dr. Angela MacCabe provides participants evidence-based standards of best practice for SBE through identifying curricular gaps, conducting a SWOT analysis to determine if simulation is the best mode of instruction, finding simulation experts to assist in the development of SBE, and showing concrete examples of needs assessments for SBE within DPT education.

The original webinar took place in April 2023.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of this webinar, participants will be able to:

• Describe foundational best practices that are essential in simulation case development.
• Develop a needs assessment for creating a simulation-based learning experience.
• Utilize best practices in simulation pedagogy in the early development of a case, including a needs assessment.
• Integrate a SWOT analysis in the creation of a simulation-based learning
