In 2012, ACAPT members approved standard prerequisite courses for DPT programs.
In the 4 years after Northwestern University aligned their prerequisites with ACAPT's standard list, they saw a significant increase in overall DPT program's applications.
"I truly believe the additional prerequisites we previously had were a barrier for many applicants, as they can add cost and time. We felt the calculus content was important to our program, so we eliminated that prerequisite per ACAPT's recommendations, but we added a short unit to our kinesiology course to cover the needed content, " says Assistant Professor Heather Henderson, "It's not all or nothing; there are some nice in-between solutions for programs to make sure students have the knowledge they need."
