Learn more about the clinical reasoning toolshed

Clinical reasoning is a core competency of the physical therapy profession and an essential element of education and research. Clinical reasoning tools enhance learners' skills like critical thinking, differential diagnosis, and clinical decision-making by making thinking visible and promoting metacognition. However, individuals at all levels of education and training in physical therapy have expressed challenges in identifying and implementing existing evidence-based clinical reasoning facilitation and assessment tools.

The Clinical Reasoning ToolShed was developed to support educators in effectively and efficiently accessing and selecting tools to implement in their learning environments, from the classroom to the clinic. Developed by a community of practice, the Clinical Reasoning ToolShed is a shared resource for educators to expedite knowledge translation, identify best practices, and drive innovation and collaboration in the scholarship of teaching and learning across educational programming.

In this listening session, participants will be oriented to the ToolShed and the summary tool profiles of evidence-based clinical reasoning tools. Creators will show how to use the ToolShed to foster educational and/or research goals for application in PT and PTA didactic and clinical settings.

Relevant Objectives:
• Describe the importance of using clinical reasoning tools in healthcare education.
• Identify the benefits of utilizing a centralized repository for clinical reasoning.
• Navigate the key components of the Clinical Reasoning ToolShed.

• Describe the potential use of the clinical reasoning tool profiles for education and research purposes.
