Interprofessional education (IPE) core competencies revisions

Apr 3, 2023

ACAPT representatives have been participating in the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) Core Competencies review & revision process.

Draft proposed 2023 revised competencies are now available from IPEC.  Please check out:

In 2013, ACAPT members voted approve a motion to encourage all Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs to use the four IPEC Core Competency domains in their curriculum. The competencies included:

  1. Values/ethics for interprofessional practice
  2. Roles/responsibilities
  3. Interprofessional communication
  4. Teams & teamwork
In 2016, IPEC expanded the focus of collaborative domains by adding population health & incorporating the Triple Aim --
  • improving the patient experience of care,
  • improving the health of populations and
  • reducing the per capita cost of health care.
