In our rapidly changing world, leaders of today must lead others while navigating personal, societal, and professional stressors. Academicians and physical therapists are facing increasing stressors in their professional roles. These factors can take a toll on the well-being and/or mental health of these individuals.

Leadership in physical therapy practice and academia requires the ability to not only support those around them, but also ensure that their personal well-being prioritized. 

This course will:

  • Look at some of the stressors faced by those in leadership roles in physical therapy
  • Offer strategies to promote better mental health of individuals in these roles.
  • Provide strategies to facilitate better well-being and mental health of others including students, employees, coworkers, and patients.
  • Participants will have an opportunity to strategize and discuss subcategories of stressors including social justice-related, academic-related, health-related, and clinic-related.

Target audience:  Deans, program directors/chairs, faculty, clinic administrators, SCCEs, CIs

Location: Wisconsin Center, Milwaukee, WI

Time & date: Thursday, Oct 27, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. CST (1-hour lunch break from 1-2 p.m.)

Terri A. deRoon-Cassini, PhD, M.S, Professor of Surgery, Psychiatry & Behavioral Medicine, and the Institute for Health and Equity at the Medical College of Wisconsin. She is also the Executive Director of MCWs Comprehensive Injury Center.

Her clinical work focuses on addressing psychological distress in injured trauma patients at Froedtert Hospital’s Level 1 trauma center. Her research centers around investigating the neurobiological and psychosocial factors that lead to psychological distress and resilience following extreme stress and trauma.
